Entry Information

NEW for 2011: Coaches can now reserve entry slots, without submitting athlete names, until 8:00 PM Wednesday - September 14th. Names of athletes competing will still be due no later than September 23rd. Entries fees still need to be postmarked no later than September 23rd. Our goal, in order to continue the tradition of hosting a top-quality cross country event, will be to limit the total High School entries in this year's Woods Trail Run to approximately 1800 athletes. If we reach this level prior to September 23rd, entries will be closed. It is highly recommended that you get your reservations, entries, AND your entry fees in as soon as possible.

Sanctioning for High Schools: This event is sanctioned by the National Federation of State High School Associations for high school competitors from the states of Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. High schools in those states must be members in good standing of their state's affiliate of the NFHS to compete in the Woods Trail Run. If your high school is not a member of your state's affiliate, the only way your school may participate is to get permission or a waiver from your state's affiliate or from the Vermont Principals' Association. In many cases, private schools can receive such a waiver. (Note: Schools that are not a member of their state's affiliate of the NFHS should contact Karen Heinzmann prior to submitting any online entries.)

Sanctioning for Junior High Schools: The NFHS does not sanction any events for junior high schools. Any junior high school runner in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade may compete.

Race Distances:  5,020 meters for High School            2,700 meters for Junior High School

Grade Divisions: High School races are for athletes in 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades only. Junior High School races are for athletes in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades only. Please do NOT enter anyone lower than 6th grade and please do NOT ask to have your junior high runners moved up to the High School races.

Race Seeding: For High School races, individual runners will be seeded into races based on their submitted 5K times. After we receive all entries, we will divide the runners up into races of 150 to 200 runners. This will allow athletes of comparable skill levels to compete together. Once all of the races have been completed, all of the results will be compiled together to arrive at team scores. There will be no seeding for the Junior High School races. See Race Format for additional details.

Spikes: High School runners may wear cross country spikes. Junior High School runners may NOT wear spikes.

Results: Complete race results will be posted at www.lancertiming.com immediately upon the completion of the last race.

Awards: Awards will be given for individual races, for overall performances, and for team results.

Entries: All entries for the 2011 Woods Trail Run will be done online by Lancer Timing Services. Entries can be submitted at any time prior to the entry deadline. However, your entries will not be entered into the database until your entry fees are received. Please send in your complete entry fees as soon as possible.

Entry fees must be postmarked NO LATER than Friday, September 23, 2011. Checks are payable to: "THETFORD ACADEMY". Online entries will be accepted until 5:00PM on Friday, September 23rd unless we reach our entry limits prior to that date. Any entry fees postmarked after September 23rd, if accepted, will be subject to a $25.00 late entry fee. NOTE: The Entry Fee is just that -  a fee to cover our costs for processing your entries. As such, Entry Fees are NOT refundable.

Fees: Add the total number of boys and girls from each school to determine your total. Please go to the Entry Fees page to calculate your entry fees. Fees are as follows:

No. of Athletes High School   No. of Athletes Junior High School

First 30 athletes $ 4.00 each   First 20 athletes $ 3.00 each
31st thru 40th $ 3.00 each   21st thru 40th $ 2.00 each
41st thru 50th $ 2.00 each   41st and beyond $ 1.00 each
51st and beyond $ 1.00 each

Best Place to Watch: The best place to catch all the racing action is the Upper Soccer Field behind the flagpole. The athletes pass through this area four times during each race. This area is clearly marked on the Trail Map.
