2007 New England Championships
Saturday - November 10, 2007 Site to be announced
NOTE: Some of the information given below about the New England Championships may change after these pages are published.
Number of Teams and Number of Runners on Each Team
: The six girls teams and six boys teams that have the lowest scores in the Championship Races (computed as described below) will qualify for the New England Championships. Teams may register up to nine runners for the New Englands - runners who competed in the Championship Race and registered runners who were eligible to compete in the Championship Race (whether or not they competed or finished). Seven of those runners may start in the New England Championship. If a team that qualifies chooses not to go, then lower teams move up, until six teams choose to go. The results of runners in the Challenge Races do not count for determining which teams qualify for the New Englands.Number of Individuals: The 25 girls and 25 boys who run the fastest times in the Championship Races will qualify for the New England Championships. If any of these 25 choose not to compete, lower ranked runners do not move up, and Vermont will send less than 25 to the New Englands.
Method of Choosing: As each divisional Championship Race is run, it will be scored for individuals and for teams for that one division. After all of the divisions have been run, the computer results will be combined, and the computer will score the combined results as if one big race had been run with all three divisions together. These combined results will be used to select the 25 individual girls, and 25 individual boys who qualify, and to select the 6 girls teams and 6 boys teams who qualify.
How Combined Results Are Scored: The combined results for the Championship Races will be scored for team scores by individual place, as determined by the individual times entered in the computer. Each runner's time is entered in the computer to the hundredths of a second as they cross the line, although official results only show whole seconds. The teams that qualify for the New Englands will be determined from the combined results by the same scoring method used to determine team results in each division.
Team Registration For the New Englands: Coaches must register their teams, and declare which nine runners will be registered right after the Awards Ceremony. If you don't
register, you may forfeit your team's right to compete, and a lower scoring team may be moved up to take your place. Coaches may elect not to take a team, and still take individuals from that team who are in the top 25.Individual Registration for the New Englands: Individuals who are not on teams need do NOTHING FURTHER after the Vermont Championship. All the information they need will be in the packet the coaches received for the Vermont Championship. All 25 individuals will be automatically registered for the New England Championship, whether they choose to compete or not, and they need do nothing further to register.
New Englands Information Packet: All coaches of teams competing in the Vermont Championship received information about the New England Championship in their Vermont packets.
